Runt is a villager in Minecraft, where villagers are destined to a life of farming. This might be enough for some but not for Runt. He wants to be more. He dreams of being a Warrior, like his hero Steve. Leaving his village, Runt sets off on an adventure to fulfill his dream. Along the way, he meets a zombie named Blurp who also dreams of being more. Together these friends attempt to break the norms and find their own calling while making some allies and enemies along the way.

These are your smaller graphic novels (not big as a comic, not as small as a novel) with colorful artwork of our heroes on the front. Flipping through the pages, this is your standard colored graphic novel, each with about 100 pages.

This is a straightforward graphic novel about Runt from the "Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior" books. Knowing little about Minecraft, I found the book does a good job with explaining the world of Minecraft to the casual reader, so you still understand what is going on. That being said, there is lots to enjoy if you do know lots about Minecraft. I really enjoyed how well written this story was. It was also packed with humor that will make you appreciate the characters and make your kids laugh. Even I chuckled aloud a few times through the book. I also love the art as it is a cartoony and fits the style of the story. Knowing this book is geared to kids, I liked the positive themes and lessons that this book shows. Things like acceptance of people (and zombies), no matter what they look like, breaking out of social norms and showing integrity.

"The Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior Graphic Novels" were a pleasure to read as an adult and asking my children, they also loved reading it (4 out of 5 stars they say). If you have a little one who is a fan of Minecraft, this would be a great book for them. Not only will these books encourage your young ones to ready but they also have some great lessons of acceptance of others and never giving up on yourself.
