Uncle Artemis was the eccentric world traveller that your family never understood quite like you did. When he passed away recently, he left you the key to his locked inner sanctum, a place you remember fondly as a child for its wonder and unique relics. Finally, returning to this place of nostalgia, you wonder why he left you this key and what secrets lie inside the space. Will this provide your closure or is there more to your beloved uncle then you ever knew?

"Uncle Artemis” is a point and click adventure game using Telescape. You have no game master and can start the game whenever you choose. After a short video clip introducing the premise of the game, you find yourself inside Telescape with a 360 degree view of Uncle Artemis’ office. You also have a letter in your inventory. Your goal is to click and inspect various drawers, cabinets, wall furnishing, and whatever else you come across to collect and use to solve puzzles. Once an item has served its purpose, it will disappear so you do not need to worry about keeping track. The puzzles themselves are non-linear which allows for a divide and conquer method. There is a large mechanical device on the one wall with different puzzle locks you need to solve using the room. If you require any hints, certain puzzles will have a hint button on the corner of the screen when you access the puzzles but not all puzzles have this so keep that in mind.

The puzzles within "Uncle Artemis'' range from observation, logic, and pattern recognition. The main puzzle is above the fireplace but you also have some locked chests and drawers that immediately draw your attention. I found the puzzles themselves to be fairly straightforward and fun but it did take a moment to locate some crucial clues you will need to start puzzling. I encourage you to very carefully inspect all the surroundings first before diving into the puzzles as you will need items in your inventory to solve each puzzle.
I liked how some of the puzzles were not overtly obvious in what their intention was. They had a subtle element to them that made them refreshing and gave us a fun “aha” once we put the pieces together. I would say this game suits a smaller group of puzzles as it is on the small side but we were able to make do. Once you solve a puzzle, everyone’s screen will cut to a short video sequence so you will know your progress.
I will say some of the puzzles not having hints did strike me as a little odd but ultimately we were able to figure things out. With this in mind, I recommend playing with an experienced player if you are new to puzzling as they should be able to solve the puzzles you might get stuck on.

"Uncle Artemis" was a fun and lighthearted adventure packed in a small room. There was a good range of puzzling and I felt everyone playing was able to really tackle a puzzle each to their strengths. The theme was interesting, especially as you progressed to the end, and I find this has a good balance of puzzle to theme ration. New and experienced players alike will undoubtedly enjoy this. I just hope I can do Uncle Artemis service after solving his secrets…can you?
