📖 THE STORY
You are locked in the dunny in the middle of nowhere in the Australian outback. You find out that the dunny is the shed where an insane Aussie celebrity, Huge Axeman, lives! You have only about an hour till the sun sets. Can you get out of the dunny and find a way to call for a rescue?
🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
I liked that the theme was uniquely Australian. The game started in the dunny, a public toilet in Australia. I enjoyed learning something new about Australia while playing the game. I love to experience an original theme connected to something local.
The game master asked us to close our eyes and led us into the room with our eyes closed. I liked the introduction to the room. I was excited when I opened my eyes at the beginning of the game.
Although the space for the game was not huge, there were a good number of puzzles and searching items in the rooms. The puzzles fit well with the theme. I enjoyed solving some of the puzzles.
From the radio in the room, a character with a voice alone gave us hints. Though it was hard for us to understand the man’s voice with his Australian accent, the hint system might support players to stay immersed and engaged in the world.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
Unlike the other game I played at Escape This, some items and the room's decor seemed cheap and rough, especially in the second half of the game. It might be just because of the theme.
Our game master helped us at some points, but I felt that was one-way communication because of the style of their hint system. I personally prefer to communicate with the game master directly when I need them.

“The Dunny” is an exciting escape room that captures the essence of the Australian outback. Before I played this game, I thought it might be scary. But it turned out to be fun and playful. While some may feel a bit disgusted at the start, it is enjoyable for everyone to play with friends and family. If you want an experience uniquely Aussie, I recommend trying “The Dunny” in the outback!
