📖 THE STORY
The year is 1888. The London's streets have been terrorized by a murderer roaming around the neighborhood of Whitechapel. The locals are frightened and the streets are empty. The infamous "Jack the Ripper" has delivered a bloody letter to Scotland Yard antagonizing them. Inspector Charles Warren, lead investigator on the case has gone missing. You and your team of graduates from the Police College have been assigned to the case to find the Inspector and hopefully track down Jack the Ripper as well...

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
This is a not an ordinary escape room. You'll feel as if you've entered a movie set right when you step foot inside the room. The eeriness of the night sky, the iconic red phone-booth in London and the emptiness of the streets took us into a cinematic immersion right away.
Rather than "escaping", we were here to accomplish objectives instead: (1) find the inspector and (2) catch Jack the Ripper. The decision to implement a live actor in the room was utilized really well in this case as the actor knew exactly when to nudge us forward with the game and when to give us a chance to explore things on our own. Of course we did have a few jump scares, but it's nothing compared to their horror themed rooms.
There are some interesting decision moments that were designed into the room making it feel more connected to the real world. There is no wrong or right answers, but you'll have to solve a "simpler" puzzle a harder way if you choose to go down another path.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
One thing that I wish GAME OVER had offered in the game was better lanterns (especially when 75% of the game is played in dim lighting). Maybe the one we had that day just so happened to have a weaker battery.
There was one object that had a sticker on it which we were instructed not to touch. However, it was to be utilized to solve a puzzle in the room. Also the object was quite high so we just assumed it's to be a visual aid and not to be touched. It would be great if this was indicated more clearly.
Although the set design does have a stairs that leads up to an upper area, we wish they would have used that for another puzzle or an interactive area with the live actor. It felt wasteful for such a beautiful area to not really be utilized.
🏹 TAKE A SHOT?
"Jack the Ripper" is more of an immersive experience with a live actor rather than a traditional escape room with heavy puzzling. There are puzzles you can solve in the room but a lot of the time it does work hand in hand with the actor's nudging in terms of if it's the right time to progress onwards or not. There were times that we weren't sure if we had more things to do or not and just waited for a bit in the creepy streets. But that does also add into the element of feeling closer to real life situations than an actual game. The puzzle designs did involve a good amount of searching. But if you like the interaction with live actors, then you'll find this experience enjoyable. We really enjoyed our time with our inspector. He was witty and had a little dark sense of humor. If you are lucky to have Leonidas for your game, say hi for us!
