Can You Escape? Edinburgh is our final stop in Edinburgh, Scotland. They currently have two locations. The other location is in York and there are different escape games there than the ones at the Edinburgh location. Right when you enter the lobby, you are attracted to the photos of many different escape teams pinned to the wall. Don’t forget to put a pin down on their location map before you leave!
Currently there are 2 games at the Edinburgh location: “Operation Spellbound” and “Operation Odyssey”. We are going to try an attempt to escape the “Operation Spellbound” room which has two identical rooms so if two teams wanted to compete you can book both at the same time. Right away our game master got into character and turned into this century old monk (who has a wonderful opera voice by the way) and lead us down to our cave where the legendary magician Morgana and Merlin have their eternal battle. We needed to go in there to save King Arthur’s land. Once we got into the room, we were transformed into another realm. The dragon was a nice touch to the storyline. There were some clever ways of using the props for different puzzles. We felt that the difficulty level may be a little bit on the easier side for escape room enthusiasts as we were able to get out with two people with plenty of time to spare. However, the goal of Can You Escape? Edinburgh was for the customers to have a fun and enjoyable time and not to entrap you with difficult puzzles which they definitely did! The game master periodically would give hints which also made it a bit too easy as normally we are used to asking for hints when we need them. We still loved that he was in character the whole time even when aiding us with our mission. Clues were very clear and easily understandable. Due to not having much space at this location, we felt that they may not be able to be as creative in making “surprises” within the room but would love to see what they come up with in the other rooms when they have the space.
We took a sneak peek at their “Operation Odyssey” and we loved the set design and I’m sure there are “surprises” in there that is waiting to be discovered. We hope to return one day to try their other rooms but for now we hold proud to our King Arthur’s land’s savior title and journey onwards to our next mission!
