We played this game on my birthday. It was quite fitting for the current situation since we're unable to go out to celebrate. Brandon is a 4th generation New Yorker and I have been living in NY since I was 10 years old. We were curious to see how much knowledge we had on our beloved State.
The game was build similar to a Google Form style text game. You will be given clues on certain streets or landmarks. If you are not familiar with the history on the area, you'll have to Google to find the name first. Once you figure out where you needed to go, you'll have to use Google map to get there. The clues would eventually lead you to a place where you'll be able to answer the final question. If you were not familiar with the location of the game you're playing, it'll probably take you a good 1-2 hours to complete the game. Since the NY game covered areas outside of NYC, we had to even use Google a few times complete the task ourselves.
We have to admit we're not avid fans of these Google map type of game as I'm pretty bad with directions and sometimes Google map is just really hard to follow to a specific spot (the little "yellow man" sometimes doesn't work!). It's also not really "puzzles" but more of a search and find concept. This particular game played more smoothly since NY has a special meaning for us. Even if we were stuck, it was easy for us to find the answer. If you do need assistance, there are self guided hints on their website. It was also quite nice to virtually visit some of the places we frequented when there wasn't a pandemic. There were a lot of wonderful memories we talked about throughout the game like sitting in Central park, cruising on the highway, food hopping all over the city, etc...We can't wait for things to go back to normal but in the mean time these virtual "tours" are great at taking your mind elsewhere. Even if its just for a couple of hours...
** UPDATE - We regret to inform that "Hour Glass Online Escape Room" has closed.
