📖 THE STORY

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • This game's experience begins before you even enter the room. We were debriefed in an area called "The Training Area" by a general. He was in character right when we arrived and we even received a little test to see if we would qualify for the upcoming mission.

  • The storyline for "Enigma" takes us back to WWII and really provided the experience of a top secret mission. Recruited as expert analysts specializing in decoding, added an extra sense of urgency. We definitely got the impression that the fate of the war relied on us.

  • The dim lighting made us feel like we've entered into either a cave or bunker. The set design resembled a secret hideout with a bunch of old equipment from the 1940's. It's quite spacious and we each got an opportunity to search around and solve puzzles together and separately. The room was mostly linear but we thought that was appropriate given that there's a good amount of information to decode, it wouldn't really help if the other player came in something halfway.

  • This game is a puzzle-lover's dream! There was a good amount to solve in this room (especially for 2 people). We encountered a variety of puzzle challenges that required different methods of decoding.

  • There was one "activation" that we haven't seen before but it definitely spotlighted the "secrecy" feel of a "Enigma" room.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • One thing we thought could help enhance the experience is for the a better confirmation system on puzzles that's been solved correctly. There was one puzzle we weren't sure if we had solved it and wasted some time on it until we confirmed it with our GM.

  • As the room is quite spacious and we do have to travel back and forth from time to time, it's a bit difficult to be remember where the walkie-talkie ends up. Sometimes it's also not very clear. It would be great if a new type of "hint" system could be build in for easier access.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

Before playing "Enigma", we heard that it's one of the most challenging games in Athens. After comparing to some of the other ones we've visited on this trip, this one definitely had the most puzzles. If you love challenges (especially if you have a smaller group), decode secret codes and feeling like a secret agent then you'll have a lot of fun with this game! It's not a high tech room but it fits the theme since it is staged to be in the WWII era.

Mystery Lab has (2) locations in Athens. At this particular location (Chrysolora), they have (3) games available to choose from - "Requiem", "Asylum" and "Enigma" and the other one (Damokleous), they have a laser tag arena and (2) games available - "Lost Revised" and "Captain James Secret"!
