📖 THE STORY
It was the 1990's in NYC. This was a period where gangs were flourishing and our partner Agent Walter Smith had gotten some evidence to put some of these bad people away. Suddenly, we got a call that there has been a shooting at his house. When we arrived, some corrupted cops have already started to look for evidence files and planned to destroy them. We must act fast and hopefully find what Agent Smith had left for us before they do!
🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
We felt like true detectives having to think of real-life solutions to deal with the current situation. We always enjoyed “think outside the box” puzzles.
The clarity of what we had solved and what had opened was great in this game.
We liked that all the puzzles involved some sort of correlation with crime solving (i.e. finger printing, shoe matching etc.…)
The final puzzle gave us a “wow” moment. We liked how it wasn’t your typical “key lock” situation and the little twist was refreshing.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
We spoke about the sanitation issue before with Budapest escape rooms. The room should still look like a “finished” room with better conditioned props that were not dusty or felt dirty to touch. We understand maybe the set design for outside of the house needed a “rawer” look but the inside definitely needed a bit of touch up to feel more like a physical apartment.
One prop had a “lit up” moment but didn’t have anything to reveal or opened anything. We found that somewhat confusing. It may be best to either take it out or actually use it for a clue.
This is a suggestion we have for the venue: It would be great if the story or rules could be played on a TV or a shorter version could be told as the introduction by the game master was quite long. Maybe a printout of the rules could be handed out and the players could read it at their own speed and sign the disclosure after.
🏹 TAKE A SHOT?
ParaPark is a franchise with 14 locations currently worldwide. This location has great potential if the shared space outside would complete someday into a restaurant or bar area. Currently, it still feels like a construction zone. The room we tried felt more finished than the other rooms they have. The puzzles in this room were quite enjoyable but the venue space and set designs of the room need some improvement.
