📖 THE STORY

We were disguised as volunteers to enter the professor’s lab. There has been reports of missing persons of the past volunteers and our real mission was to find out what had happened to them. Rumors were circling around stating that the professor was conducting harmful psychiatric research in the lab. We hope to get out alive to stop him from his evil doings!

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • A good variation of types of puzzles. We were surprised at the amount of Math required in Budapest games in general. They are not extremely difficult but more complicated than the ones in the US.

  • Surprise transformation of lighting in the latter part of the game was a nice addition to the story line.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • We didn’t sense the eerie feeling that the story was going towards with the set design. Even as the story developed, it still lacked the reveal of the main plot which was what the creepy processor was doing to his victims.

  • Although the puzzles were not all searching in terms of physical items, there was still “searching” components in a lot of the puzzle designs. We were hoping for more connections of the puzzles with the story line rather than just “out of context” puzzles.

  • The props of the room felt outdated and would be nice to get an upgrade. If dimmer lighting and sinister type of music could be added to the room, it would create more of the anticipated eeriness.

  • One puzzle in the latter of the game was quite difficult for us to understand logically. We had to ask the game master to explain a few times to us (perhaps due to the language issue) to understand how to proceed.

  • We like the transformation of lighting aspect of the room as mentioned above. It would’ve been nice to have a continuation on the surprise to have a solid “wow” ending.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

“Exit The Room” is a franchise with 16 companies currently (located in Austria-Hungary, Germany, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia). This is the first “Exit The Room” location we’ve been to so we can’t compare it from a large scale. From the photos we’ve seen of this room on their website, we do see that the decoration of the room looks different in different locations. The main room definitely feels more eerie with the props and the set design in some of the other ones we’ve seen. It doesn’t seem like as a franchise they need to keep it consistent with different locations. Coming from the US, Budapest rooms are all very reasonably priced. If you are an enthusiasts looking to do a lot of rooms on a budget, then you have come to the right place. But if you are looking for amazing set design and quality puzzles, we feel that it felt short to some of the other locations we’ve been to. We still had fun solving the different puzzles in the room but didn’t leave with a fully satisfied feeling.  Our recommended team size for this room would be 3 people and up mainly because it would be much easier for one of the puzzles however we did manage to escape with just the two of us.
