Planet Fluffrica and all its inhabitants, which are llamas, are in dire trouble as a meteor is coming and ready to cause a planet wide extinction. A spaceship has been made and ready to launch but it can only hold a certain amount of llamas. Convince everyone why your llama should be saved, get aboard the spaceship and be saved from the impending Llamageddon.

The outside of the box has some humourous looking llamas on it with a meteor coming down. Inside, we found 2 decks of cards, one of different llamas and characteristic cards, some boards to create a spaceship out of and some tokens.

First, we set up the spaceship to the correct amount of seats based on how many people were playing. Since we played with 6 people we ended up using all the spaceship boards. Each player then received a set of four tokens, each with a different point value on it. Next, we dealt 5 llama cards and 5 characteristic cards to everyone. The llama cards featured llamas in different occupations, such as lawyer, headhunter, or psychic, while the characteristic cards had effects like gaining extra llama points (LP) at the end of the game or create an additional seat on the spaceship. Each player chose four cards to keep and discarded one of each type. Next, we paired a characteristic card with each llama card and placed a point token on top. We were ready to begin.

During each round, players would nominate a llama and try to convince everyone why their llama deserved to be on the spaceship. After everyone presented their argument, we voted on who should board (We couldn’t vote for ourselves). For the 5 to 6 player version, the winning llama’s choice would also get to board. Once a llama boarded, we would look at the characteristic card for that llama and resolve their effect. The game continued until all the seats were filled. At the end, we totaled the llama points for the boarded llamas, and the player with the most points was declared the winner.

We loved the artwork in this game from the box design to each llama card that hilariously and accurately represented each profession as a llama. The pieces were all high quality and durable and the story was cleverly written with so many great puns to make us smile and groan. However, we did notice that not all rules and scenarios were covered in the book and we had to create some house rules along the way. Based on feedback, to keep the game fresh as the same llamas could feel repetitive, we did allow people at the end of each round to swap out one llama if they wanted to which we found spiced things up. We also found for the 5 to 6 player game, the twist of having the 2nd llama to board chosen by the winner, added some randomness into the game and balance the game.

This game doesn’t rely heavily on strategy, but like most party games, knowing your audience can make all the difference. We heard some hilarious speeches, and more often than not, the most memorable and humorous ones beat out the most logical. (“Of course, we need a hairstylist in the new world. Llamas won’t procreate unless they’re attracted to each other, and good hair is essential for that!”)

"Llamageddon" is a light party game with some quality components and plenty of fun built in. The players you choose really sets the tone for how much fun you will have to make sure to play with some dynamic and creative friends. The game can play up to 6 people and for this one, the more the merrier. Anyone looking for a light party game, a chance to practice toastmaster skills or just some good feelings should check this game out. While having more players might reduce your chances of boarding the ship, the laughs and fun make the final moments of the impending Llamageddon totally worth it.
