Opening up the dark envelope, you will find an introduction sheet that will give you the backstory to the characters and Jujutsu High, a letter from your teach Gojo, and a top secret document with information on the abandoned school and mission at hand. There will also be a second envelope that contains everything you need to learn and perform your cursed technique.

This game is played online using the envelope that you purchased. In the envelope, there is a lot of backstory and information given to you about Jujutsu High and the characters as well as all the items you need to perform your “long distance folding technique”. SCRAP does a great job giving you all you need to know about the characters and the backstory of Jujutsu High and the world of curses. You do not need to have watched the show to enjoy the game but you would enjoy the characters and story more if you have. One tip would be the take the time to go over the backstory before getting into the game.

Once you sign into the online component, you are will be given a high quality video introducing you a little more to the characters and story. The videos are in Japanese but with English subtitles. The voice acting was top notch with a simple but effective video to advance the story after you solved some puzzles. To communicate with the characters and submit your answers, there will be a chat window that you type the answers and prompts into. One note is that there were a lot of cut scenes throughout the game. After every puzzle solve, there seemed to be a 2-3 minute video to advance the story.

The hint system was set up to give layered hints before the solution which we found was done well. We did use a few hints and never felt that we were just given the solution. They also provided photos for the solutions which communicated what you needed to do easier.

The bulk of the puzzles were based around the “folding technique” that was introduced in the game. This was quite unique and different. We were reluctant at first about folding puzzles, but SCRAP did an excellent job executing them and we were very enthralled with what they could come up using a few simple folds. This is also one of the reasons where you should only play with 2 or 3 people because anymore and there would be too many people just sitting around. There were also a few other puzzles to break it up here and there to help keep us engaged and not overdo the folding. This game ramps up nicely to help you get familiar with everything by giving you some simple puzzles to solve and get used to before giving you tougher puzzles. Another key component was that certain puzzle themes that were introduced weren't just used once, but multiple times. So nothing seemed wasted or was over too soon. One tip is to make sure you go through everything. The information you need to solve the puzzles will be there somewhere.

If you are familiar with other SCRAP games, especially some of their in-person games, than this is one that you would enjoy. The folding puzzles were a nice surprise to see and we found that they were simple to learn but were challenging enough, especially as the game progressed. One item that we enjoyed was how they were able to integrate why we are playing at home into the story. It did take the 2 of us just over 2 hours to complete the game but there was a lot of story to watch. This is a great game for some people who are new to at-home escape games since it does a great job holding your hand at the start but letting you go on your own further in. Having watched the anime show Jujutsu Kaisen, we really enjoyed being able to interact with the characters but even if you are not familiar with the show, this is still a great game to play.
