📖 THE STORY

A mysterious flash of light hit the entire earth and turned every human into stone. Modern civilization was lost and humanity went back to the Stone Age. After 3,700 years passed, Senku Ishigami, a brilliant scientist awakened from petrification. Senku decided to rebuild modern civilization with his scientific knowledge and help from his friends.

One day, Senku and his friends were exploring the cave where everyone was turned into stone when suddenly, there was a landslide that trapped them inside. Senku realized that he needed more workforce to find a way out of this cave, so he released you from petrification with his “revival fluid.” Can you safely escape from this cave with Senku and his friends?

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • This game was a collaboration with the Japanese anime Dr. Stone. SCRAP did a great job creating a fun and exciting game based on the world of Dr. Stone! All puzzles and scientific experiments nicely fit into the story and atmosphere of Dr. Stone. If you are a fan of Dr. Stone, you can enjoy watching the original footage produced for this game and experiencing the world of Dr. Stone. Even If you do not know it, the main characters and story are explained well in the handout and introductory video. Knowing the anime may be handy, but you do not need any specific knowledge to solve the puzzles. Either way, you can enjoy the game. If you are interested, you can check the first episode on YouTube.

  • We played most of the puzzles on the assigned table. We did some experiments in the designated areas after we solved some puzzles. It was like a mixture of a tabletop game and an escape room. Since the entire room was set up as a cave and we did some physical actions in the designated areas, I felt still immersed in the game even though we solved many puzzles at our table. This game style is often used by SCRAP and many other puzzle companies in Japan these days. It may not be the classic escape room that you know, but I think the game style is still fun and immersive. (You get to experience a current Japanese game style when you play this game!)

  • The flow of the game was great. It started with straightforward puzzles on paper and collecting items and information. The tasks got more challenging as the game went on. The little scientific experiments between each step were also fun. Like any other SCRAP game, the last puzzle had a nice twist. When we figured it out, we had a nice Aha moment. We felt a great sense of accomplishment and excitement.

  • The staff members were friendly and helpful. When we needed extra hands for a task, they came and helped us.

  • Even if you run out of time before you reach the last part, you can continue the game. (800 yen per player is required to continue another 10 min. You can do the last part only once.)

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • Usually, the company provides pencils, but we received pens this time. It was stressful for us to write notes and every answer on paper with pens instead of pencils. We needed an erasable writing tool, especially when writing correct answers without mistakes was crucial for some puzzles.

  • Even though each group starts on its own time, other groups also play in the same big room. It may be distracting when many people are playing around you.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

"Escape from the Stone Cave!" was an exciting puzzle game with interesting science

experiments. The game may not be a traditional escape room, but it is still fun and

immersive. The puzzles toward the end are worth challenging. Whether you are a fan of Dr. Stone or not, it does not matter. Everyone who loves Dr. Stone or solving puzzles can enjoy this game! So, if you are in Tokyo, why don’t you go to TMC and try to escape from the Stone Cave with Senku and his friends?
