It is the year 1938. Mr. Kalus suspects his wife is having an affair with Gunter Wolf. You are the second detective Mr. Kalus has decided to hire to investigate Mr. Wolf's apartment. The first one never made it out. Do you dare to enter his apartment while he's running some errands? Quick! Time is running out...

This is a avatar-led remote escape room experience played over Zoom. You'll also have an inventory system to accompany the game. An extra perk for this game is that not only will you have an avatar but a camera person as well. It definitely improved the picture stabilization for the players.

In the inventory system, you'll receive a 360 view of the room which really helped us in terms of navigating the avatar. Although after playing so many online games, our pro tip for you is to just go around the room from left to right. Online play is not like in person since there's only one avatar doing everything. You'll save a lot of game play time and it makes the avatar's job easier too for not having to run back and forth so much. The avatar was intuitive enough to follow our lead on exploring and opening items. He also knew when it was appropriate to nudge us on places we were unable or can't see clearly through the camera. I wish they were able to utilize Telescape's functionality a bit more like removing the photos we've used and putting in some interactive puzzles that we could do instead of watching the avatar. Currently the game could even go without the Telescape system but it would definitely make the game step up a notch when it could be put into appropriate use.

This room is pretty spacious so you'll have plenty of places to explore and we were pleasantly surprised in a few cases with the hidden elements.

Since the game is set in the 1930s, it's natural to see more usage with padlocks and hidden compartments rather than tech. Their utilization of some of the props in puzzles were in ways we haven't seen before. The room is full of dark secrets that slowly pealed away as we uncovered them through the locked compartments. We really liked that anticipation. Most of the puzzles were on the easier side for enthusiasts but there's still a lot to do. There's a few puzzles that we felt could have translated better with the utilization of Telescape as currently it's hard to see and verbalize to the avatar. We have given our suggestions to the creators so hopefully you'll see some revisions during your game play.

I'm a big fan of Exit19.pl's set design so it's a bummer that I have to play these games over the internet rather than IRL. The items used in the game felt authentic to the 1930s era and everything in the room has a mysterious creepiness to it. The prerecorded videos also helped with building up the suspense. It felt like we're on a movie set. Despite some minor puzzles that didn't translate as well through the online format, this is a really fun room to play. Are you intrigued enough to find out what Mr. Wolf has been hiding in his apartment yet?

Betrayal in Breslau is a remote escape game where you control an avatar inside a real escape room and tell him/her what you want to explore and open. We were welcomed by our game master in Zoom and he was in character right away. We were supposed to find out what happened to a missing person while the owner of the house is out. Besides zoom, we were also logged into Telescape, as it provides a 360 view of the room as well as an inventory system for important objects we have found. They complemented this very nicely as at certain times, the game master will 'act like something has happened' and there will be a video playing on Telescape. The transition was smooth and it really adds to the immersiveness of the game and storyline.

The next thing I want to comment on is that Betrayal in Breslau has one of THE BEST set designs I have ever seen in an escape room. I was so impressed during the experience when more areas were opened up gradually. If I had played this in person, I felt that I would have definitely graded it as the best set design I ever came across. Seriously, it is that amazing. There isn't really any physicality involved such as climbing up and down into shafts and tunnels, but it isn't needed. The whole set up looks like a real Victorian room in the 1800s. It looks like a building was converted into an escape room rather than an escape room built into a building. That is how real it gets.

There were also A LOT of puzzles to whet your appetite. When you thought you have used everything you needed already, a new area will open up and you will see even more puzzles. Some rooms give you an item that can be used later, so you know it is not the end. But Betrayal opens a new area with new stuff in it, so you are never quite sure when the end is coming. Their mechanisms were mostly the traditional kind, opening letter and number padlocks. However, there were also other interesting physical tasks involved, two in particular that I really loved which I will not spoil, but 1 requires teamwork and another felt so exciting that it made us feel that we were in a movie. I understand that most rooms now shy away from the traditional padlocks as everyone is amazed by cool technology nowadays, but Betrayal did a very good job of implementing their puzzles. They used almost everything in that room for puzzle solving, including everyday objects. It made every puzzle make sense in the thematic way and it doesn't matter to us that padlocks were used as they were equally fun to unlock and solve. Of course, there were also 1 or 2 cool technologies involved which I will let you explore on your own.

Overall, Betrayal is a highly recommended room. The game flow, the puzzles, the story and the set design all went well together and made sense. Now, I heard that their other room, The Time Machine, has an even more elaborate set up. I wonder what else they can do to top this off, and I would certainly love to try all of their rooms in the future.

Time travel. Is it possible? Well it certainly is in this room by Exit19.pl! You start outside Mr Wolf's apartment with the intention of finding a missing woman. Dare you enter the apartment after watching the video of Mr Wolf acting suspiciously? Well your avatar hopes you will help so we plunged in!

The avatar is backed up with a telescope screen where you can look around at your own pace, which really helps, and the filming is done by another person so the avatar is free to speak to you and move around which is really good!

The room design is superb, with lots of age appropriate props, plenty of hiding places and some very very clever use of everyday objects. I made a TONNE of notes for this game, there was so much to remember! There was a very clever use of the avatar revealing something to which a video then played to continue the story, and this gave the avatar time to move to a new place or change something in the scenery which was always a great surprise! The room just kept going and it was more like watching immersive theatre at times - very enjoyable.

My only addition to the gameplay would be to add more things to the telescape system that we might need to read close up or consider in more detail, as we struggled at times to see clearly enough on camera, especially writing, which there was a lot of, and I found we had moved on before I had a chance to write down all the info.

This room gets a big recommendation from me as well as the guy who was our avatar - he gave the right amount of nudges, and was entertaining too.

*** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience ***
