Read our review on “The Slasher” to learn more info on Room With A Clue.
The next room was going to be a bit more challenging as we would have to start out in the dark. It seemed like our uncle Joe was missing along with some of the other town people and we were sent into Dr. Demento’s office to see if he was the reason for the disappearances. He started to act very strangely when he began to develop an incurable brain disease and started to forget things. The room design was set to resemble a waiting area for a doctor’s office. It was quite spacious, and you literally start in the dark. If you must have a flashlight, you can ask the game master for one. The owner asked that we discover “light” on our own and it was definitely a “wow” moment. The only suggestion we had was to incorporate a few more relatable puzzles to that waiting area since it felt like a huge space just for prop use. There was also another puzzle that we discovered later that we thought didn’t really fit with the storyline but merely to use the space. If perhaps the prop or the item we needed to get can relate to why the puzzle was there, it would make the connection to the storyline better. In the latter part of the game, we enjoyed the puzzles much more due to the correlation with the theme of the room. Adding a sensory puzzle was also a nice touch to the puzzle type.
“Dr. Demento” is the new room at Room with A Clue. We saw a big step up in terms of the puzzle and room design for this room. They have another room called “The Setup” and because their lobby is very spacious, they have enough room to build a fourth room. The owners are both escape room enthusiasts and build all of their rooms in-house. We would love to see what their next idea would be for their new space and if they can utilize the height of the building for some “wow” spaces, that would be amazing!
