📖 THE STORY
The T.Y.M.E Corp is an organization dedicated to protecting the world’s timeline and, as their top agent, you have been called in for a new mission regarding the elusive Mr. E. He has consistently threatened the world’s timeline by stealing items from history at the risk of rewriting history. The previous agents were successful in recovering the last set of items stolen from the timeline but Mr. E has locked them within a self-destructing mechanism. The intel suggests the only way to unlock the device is to find clues to the code hidden clues across the timeline. Unfortunately, the T.Y.M.E. portal can only be left open for one hour. Time is of the essence and you must recover the items safely or risk being lost in time!
🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
The puzzles had a wide variety to them that made them refreshing from quick observational clues to hands-on collaborative puzzles. The balance of puzzling meant for easy dividing and conquering and to build progression across the rooms.
The addition of side missions were a hit with our team - these missions were smaller puzzles that led to the uncovering orange cubes that were extremely satisfying to collect. They are entirely optional.
The reveals helped increase the awe and intensity of the experience - I especially found the final room to create that perfect “ohhhh” moment as you race against the clock. At the same time, the rooms are carefully timed so what looks overwhelming is catered to your success.
The set design was effective and classic. The components of the room are well placed and each has an intention that encourages you to travel back in between rooms. Elements of the game are hidden with care and consideration of creating multiple “aha” moments.
The travel kit you received at the start of the mission was really useful with a writing tablet and flashlights.
The light story for the game was effectively entwined into the experience as you progressed.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
One puzzle did run into a tech issue when it became jammed but, thankfully, the GM had a backup item for us.
🏹 TAKE A SHOT?
"Project: Genesis" was an experience filled with satisfying and well designed puzzles that keep you engaged throughout. There was never a moment we felt that experience lulled and the design and set gave us plenty to look at, examine, and explore. The puzzles range in their challenges and did so with a recognition of building players up in the game. This game is for players who have keen eyes and enjoy searching for the “aha”s of great puzzling. I would say this game is tailored for more mid-tier and experienced players but larger beginner groups who aren’t afraid to ask for help would really enjoy this. After completing this game, I am intrigued to see where T.Y.M.E. Corp will take me next and look forward to the next mission!
